Abstract

This collection documents Luther A. Roby’s career in the shipping industry and contains records relating to the management of his ships and shipping related business.

Scope and Contents of the Materials

This collection contains 36 items dating from 1835-1901 relating to Luther A. Roby’s career in the shipping industry. It contains financial records documenting his business, including account books. There are also bills of sale and certificates of interest and ownership for several of his ships and schooners.

Collection Historical Note

Luther Abbot Roby was born in Nashua, New Hampshire on October 24, 1814. Roby owned ships that transported goods along the canal between Nashua and Boston as well as a ship timber business. He also served as director of the First National Bank of Nashua from its inception in 1863 until the time of his death in 1901.
