Scope and Contents: This collection of twenty-three letters written between 1853 and 1870 documents various small-scale improvements and maintenance projects throughout the city of Boston by the citizens of Boston to city officials. The letters include such requests as the raising of houses and sidewalks, the laying of new sidewalk, street paving, offers to sell land or materials to the City for development, and complaints over damages incurred as a result of City construction projects. Citizen letters are addressed to the Mayor of Boston, aldermen, and the Committee on Paving.
