Charles Dickens Correspondence, 1839-1867
[Back to Formatted Version]
Brief Description: This collection contains twenty letters written by Charles Dickens (1812-1870), that discuss a variety of subjects, among them details concerning the Tavistock House theatricals and rehearsals for "Turning the Tables", and the plight of the poor in England. In other letters, Dickens elicits help for orphans from the Gentlemen of the Stock Exchange, confirms or declines invitations, and expresses his interest in the Ragged School Movement. Also included in the correspondence are several letters that provide glimpses into Dickens’s domestic life, including the future cadetship for one of his sons and his wife’s health.
